HR’s answer to the credit crunch

Browsing one of my favourite HR blogs: McArthur's Rant, I came across a great list of tips HR the answer to the credit crunch? for effective people management in the credit crunch.

I agree with Scott’s list and would add that if it comes to reducing the workforce:

  • do it as quickly and sympathetically as you can
  • provide support to those leaving so that they continue to be ambassadors for your organisation, and also
  • provide ongoing encouragement, support, positive feedback to the ‘survivors’ – those who remain with the organisation. Those that remain after downsizing often suffer a dip in motivation, which is where knowing your people pays off, as you can tailor your approach to the needs of individuals.

View from the Top on HR: Chris Moore - Chief Executive of Domino’s Pizzas

Chris was interviewed for an article in Personnel Today (24 June). He has been with Domino’s since 1990, initially as Marketing Director. Domino’s business proposition is a simple one – delivering a great pizza in 30 minutes. This is a challenging proposition as it relies on franchisees, not employees to deliver it. Their rigorous selection process ensures the best possible franchisees are chosen for their outlets – and that their promise will be delivered.

A refreshing view

A letter in the 1 July edition of People Management was music to my ears. It was in response to an interview with the CIPD’s new Chief Executive, Jackie Orme. Jackie was quoted as saying that HR ‘must stop wasting its time by trying to justify its worth’. (hear, hear Jackie!)
