The role of the HR Business Partner: Making it Work

An article on HRZone gives a good and succinct explanation of what’s necessary to make the role of HR Business Partner work.

It makes a number of interesting points:

  • That because of the challenging times we are in and the lack of common understanding of what an HR Business Partner is or does, that this could make success in the role even more challenging to achieve.
  • That there are a number of behaviours critical to demonstrating the effectiveness of the role.
  • The importance of the whole HR function working together in a coherent way.

Often, when implementing a BP model, there is insufficient attention paid to the impact of the role on the interactions between the various parts of HR. The suggestion here, of a governance model and appropriate means of ensuring collaboration within the HR function, are effective ways of achieving success with this approach to HR service delivery.
