It was very different from what I had expected. Instead of an explanation of how the Big Issue came about and John's plans for the magazine for the future, he gave us a provocative view on the 'underclass', those who are his intended sellers of the Big Issue. He talked about those living in poverty, reliant on state benefits, who don't have the motivation to do anything different and how the Big Issue helps them to take control of their lives He gave an account of his own underprivileged background and how it shaped him into the person he is today - and why things were different then. John's presentation, given in the splendid auditorium at Robinson College, Cambridge to a largely middle class business audience was very thought provoking. It is available here: www.cambridgebusinesslectures.com . Take a look, but be warned. If you don't like swearing, it's not for you. What do you think about what he has to say?
