What is organisational development?

It is a planned approach to enabling people in an organisation to deliver improved performance in preparation for or in response to changing circumstances.  Solutions usually bring about a change in culture at an organisation wide level.  Engagement and involvement of the people affected by the change ensures that the change delivered is sustainable.

Examples include:

  • the need to work in partnership with other organisations, delivering services with or through others, which necessitates a different style of working
  • the introduction of a different approach to performance management – at organisational or individual level
  • the need for new skills to deliver different products or services
  • requirement for a different approach to leadership
