BA asks staff to work for nothing |
What do you think about BA's request to its 30,000 staff to volunteer to work for nothing for a period of between one week and one month? I think the idea of spreading the pain across the whole workforce rather than targeting individuals or certain groups of staff for redundancy is a good one. This seems to be wider practice in organisations during this recession. But it all depends how the process is implemented and what the consequences are for those who choose not to volunteer compared to those who do. It seems a fairer process to me to do what some of the car manufacturers have done i.e. apply the same rules to all employees. Hopefully BA have a plan to identify what the basis for selection of volunteers will be, similar to the process that consultancy KPMG revealed at the beginning of the year. Watch this space! |
