HRketing - blending the skills of HR and marketing |
I've been away for a while exploring some of the spectacular National Parks in the USA. I've now returned refreshed and raring to go... This article sparked my interest. It focuses on HR's role in recruitment and that is a good place to start. Making clear to potential employees what you're offering and what's in it for them to join your organisation makes good sense. But then you have to live up to it. Many HR departments could definitely benefit from some marketing know how. It's a subject I've touched on before. All too often the role of HR in organisations is unclear, so everyone develops their own definition - and of course, HR rarely lives up to it! You can't please all of the people all of the time. I've seen a number of HR-bashing articles recently. This one for instance - and it's generated lots of debate, a high proportion agreeing with the author unfortunately! I believe it is critical for HR leaders to set out clearly to their colleagues what they do and don't do. Without this, everyone will leap to their own conclusions - something no HR department can ever live up to. Why not invite your marketing colleagues out for lunch and pick their brains about how to market HR more effectively? |
