Business school can teach you a number of valuable skills. But it's doing the job that enables you to understand, respond to and anticipate what the organisation wants from HR. And there's no substitute for wide experience both within and outside the HR function. All the tips in this article in Personnel Today are good - and set a really good HR professional apart. I think my favourite is 'make friends with the financial director' - this really is a key relationship and someone you need to have on your side, though in my experience you don't necessarily talk the same language. It's worth building the relationship - even if it's hard work to do so and s/he is not necessarily the person you'd like to socialise with! |
