If you don't have a dream, how you gonna make a dream come true?

I was struck by Novak Djokovic's words at Wimbledon last week after he won his semi final tennis match against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, a win which confirmed him as the world’s #1 men’s seed for the first time and gained him a place in the Wimbledon final.  He said “I’ve been working all my life for this.  I’ve been dreaming of playing the finals at Wimbledon since I first started playing tennis when I was 4.”  The delight of achieving his dream was plain to see.

And then on Sunday, after winning the final, he said “This is the tournament I dreamed of winning, the first tournament I watched.  I had to be at the top of my game,  I had to play my best.  This is the best day of my life”.  He even ate some of the grass on the Wimbledon centre court to acknowledge to himself that he’d done it!

Imagine achieving your dream, and like Novak Djokovic, saying ‘this is what I dreamed of achieving all my life”.

Achieving his dream was not easy for Novak.  It needed vision, commitment, dedication, focus, sacrifices, lots of ups and downs, tons of hard work over a prolonged period of time - yet perhaps that's what made it worthwhile.

What is your dream?  Maybe it’s achieving a different kind of career, a different lifestyle, travel to a far off destination.

Maybe you don’t yet know what your dream is, just have a vague feeling that it’s out there if you can find what IT is.  Like the lyrics from Happy Talk “if you don’t have a dream, how you gonna have a dream come true?”
